Are you thrilled by the prospect of exclusive tours through the hallowed halls of Washington, D.C., including iconic landmarks and restricted sites? Imagine the exhilaration of hearing “that’s classified” in response to questions about national defense! Best of all, would you seize the opportunity to experience this extraordinary journey with only the cost of meals to consider?

We are thrilled to announce that applications are now open for the National Legislative Day Delegation in Washington, D.C., a distinguished opportunity for 2–4 exceptional cadets from the Minnesota Wing to participate in a transformative experience from
25 Feb – 01 Mar 2026.
This prestigious opportunity offers unparalleled access to the heart of our nation’s capital. Past delegations have enjoyed remarkable experiences, such as:
- Touring the iconic U.S. Capitol and meeting with Senators and Representatives.
- Exploring the historic White House.
- Gaining rare insights during a guided tour of the Pentagon.
- Honoring our nation’s heroes by placing a wreath at Arlington National Cemetery.
- Visiting the world-renowned Smithsonian Museums.
While this year’s itinerary is still being crafted, you can anticipate equally remarkable opportunities to engage with the pillars of our democracy and immerse yourself in the rich history of Washington, D.C. This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to create memories and connections that will shape your future.
Application Requirements
To be considered for this esteemed delegation, cadets must meet the following criteria:
- Hold the rank of C/CMSgt or higher.
- Be 16 years or older by 24 February 2026.
- Maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher (unofficial transcript acceptable, preferred).
- Have earned at least one achievement in the year prior to the application deadline (preferred).
- Submit a CAP Resume including your CAPID#.
- Provide two letters of recommendation: one from a Senior Member in CAP and one from an adult mentor outside of CAP.
- Be able to have a full Class A uniform for the trip (mandatory).
- Submit an essay adhering to these guidelines:
- 500–800 words.
- Times New Roman, 12pt font, double-spaced.
- Topic: “How has the Civil Air Patrol prepared you to serve your community, state, and nation?”
Submission Details
- Deadline: 16 November 2025 at 2359. Late submissions will not be accepted.
- Submit your application packet to tekstrand@mncap.org with the subject line: “NLD Application, Last Name, First Name, CAPID”.
Selection Process
Finalists may be invited to participate in an online interview with the selection committee in late November or early December 2025. If selected as a finalist, your Unit Commander must provide written confirmation of your permission to attend.
Financial Considerations
The MN Wing Civil Air Patrol will generously cover airfare and hotel accommodations, for selected cadets. However, cadets and their families are responsible for some meals, incidentals, and souvenirs, estimated at approximately $200–$300. Mandatory online training sessions will also be required, with dates to be determined.
